SHERBORNE IN SIXTY SECONDS: 26 MARCH

More than ninety volunteers have joined the Sherborne Viral Kindness group. It was was set up by Sherborne’s independent traders and is getting  over 80 requests a day for shopping, pharmacy collections, dog walking and other services. They’re now running a community kitchen delivering free home cooked meals to those who need them. You can contact the group via their Facebook page @sherborne viral kindness.

Pupils and teachers waiting to hear how GCSEs, AS and A levels will be awarded this summer will find out next week when OFQUAL will publish detailed information about the process and timetable. OFQUAL says they will do everything they can to ensure studentsare not disadvantaged by the unprecendented circumstances.

The tourist information centre is closed but enquiries will be answered on 01935 815341 or by emailing stic@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk

The council is urging tourists and second-home owners to stay away from the county  to safeguard NHS resources for local people.

If you’re self isolating the council has produced a poster to put in your window telling callers why you won’t be answering the door. Download it for free at dorsetcouncil.gov.uk

You shouldn’t be travelling by train except to go to work, but South Western Railway has a reduced service running, the ticket office at Sherborne is closed, and ticket machines won’t take cash.

Stay at home…go out only for essential shopping or exercise…and wash your hands as soon as you get home.

Sherborne in Sixty Seconds…more tomorrow.
